A new security feature is coming to WhatsApp as Meta augments its privacy controls over its apps for user protection. Users can now use passkeys to encrypt backups of their chat history. This move adds to the security improvement efforts of Meta following the recent launch of anti-scam tools on both WhatsApp and Messenger.

The said rollout applies on iOS and Android devices. When using passkeys, users can sign in via biometrics to encrypt chat history. They can use a screen lock code, their fingerprint or face recognition. Encryption prevents unauthorized access to your account. It ensures that you, and other authorized users, can get through, keeping it more private and safe.

By using passkeys, users can also eliminate the need to memorize or input complex passwords when backing up their chat history on WhatsApp.
