You can find all of the apps you need to download and install on your Windows PC from the Microsoft Store. However, some users encounter the error code 0x80073CFE when they try to launch Microsoft Store on Windows 10. The error prevents them from running the Windows app store and download any apps.

If you see the error 0x80073CFE, the message below will appear.

“Something unexpected happened. Reporting this problem will help us understand it better. You can wait a bit and try again or restart your device. That may help. Code: 0x80073CFE”

In some cases, you will also encounter the error message, “ERROR_PACKAGE_REPOSITORY_CORRUPTED. The package repository is corrupted.”


How to Resolve Microsoft Store App Error Code 0x80073CFE on Windows 10 PC

While there may be different reasons and causes why you see the Microsoft Store error code 0x80073CFE, there are also several ways to fix and repair the issue. Follow each solution below one at a time and try to relaunch the app store to see if the problem remains or get resolved.

Solution #1 – Reboot your Windows 10 Computer

A quick restart of your Windows system will help refresh your Internet network connection and delete temporary files that may be contributing to the Microsoft Store app error.

  • Launch the Start Menu on your Windows 10 PC.
  • Click the Power options.
  • Select Restart.
  • Wait for the rebooting process to finish before relaunching Microsoft Store.

Solution #2 – Reset Microsoft Store

If restarting your PC does not do the trick, another way is to reset the Microsoft Store app through the Settings menu.

  • Navigate to the Settings menu of your Windows 10 PC.
  • Go to Apps.
  • Select Apps and features.
  • Look for Microsoft Store and click to open.
  • Select the Advanced options.
  • Click the Reset button.

Solution #3 – Run a Windows SFC Scan

  • First, search the Command Prompt.
  • Right-click on it from the search result and select Run as Administrator.
  • Now, enter the following command: SFC /scannow.
  • Wait for the scan to finish.
  • Restart your computer.

Solution #4 – Perform a DISM Scan

  • Search the Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  • Enter the following command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth.
  • Once done, enter the next command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth.
  • Lastly, enter this command: DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Restart your computer.

Solution #5 – Do the Reset this PC Method

Note that when you do a factory reset on your Windows 10 PC, it will remove all the apps and settings. It will give you a fresh and new Windows 10 setup. However, you can choose to keep all your files during the process. But, to be sure, perform a backup on all your files first before resetting.

  • Launch the Settings menu.
  • Select Update & security.
  • Click Recovery.
  • Look for Reset this PC.
  • Click Get Started.
  • Make sure to select Keep my files to save a backup.
  • A scan will begin.
  • After the scan, you will see the list of apps that Windows 10 will delete from your PC.
  • If you do not wish to delete the apps, click Cancel. But, if you want to proceed, click Next.
  • A message notification will appear. Read it carefully. If you agree, click the Reset button.
