Two-factor authentication (2fa) is made better and simpler thanks to hardware authentication devices such as YubiKey. It also enhances how to verify and authenticate your login without going through a text or generator app but by only pressing a button.
To advance the function of YubiKey devices, Yubico, the company behind the physical security verification device, will launch a new firmware update that will add more enhancements to the tool. The updated 5.7 firmware will be available late in May 2024.
The YubiKeys 5.7 firmware update will include capacities to set complex PINs as well as expanded storage capabilities. It also encourages passwordless authentication and improved security for enterprise users.
Can I download and install the 5.7 firmware security update on my Yubico’s YubiKey device?
Unfortunately, users cannot upgrade their existing YubiKeys to the 5.7 firmware version. Yubico noted that such a process is done for security reasons. However, users will have to buy new YubiKey devices to avail of the latest technological improvements on the keys.
Yubico is also launching the new Authenticator 7 app, which will be available on Android and desktop. Update on iOS devices will follow suit.
