How to Fix Amazon Fire TV or Firestick Content License Error on Prime Video

Seeing an error flashing on the screen of your Amazon Fire TV or Firestick device can spike up your frustrations. What more if you encounter a license error? Issues with content licensing when streaming on Prime Video sometimes point out problems with your Amazon account. That alone can already cause you to worry about how it came to be and what you must do.

It is good to note that there are different reasons why you see the License_Error on your Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick streaming media player. In most cases, it can be an issue with your Amazon Prime account. At other times as we mentioned above. However, sometimes it can also be that Amazon’s server is down or there is a massive outage in their service.

“Video unavailable. We’ve encountered a problem with this video. Please try again. If this problem continues, please contact Amazon Customer Service at https://www.primevideo.com/ww-av-android-contactus. Error code: LICENCE_QUERY_RIGHTS-FAILURE”

Other people only encounter the error code License_Error on their streaming device screen.

How to Fix Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick License Error when Streaming Content on Prime Video App

You can try each of the methods below and check if it fixes the license error on your Amazon Fire TV Stick or not. If none of the solutions work for you, it is best to contact Amazon Prime Video customer service and report your issue. Click here to get started with your report. But if you want to try and fix it yourself, use these methods:

Method #1 – Restart your Amazon Fire TV Stick Player

  • On your Amazon Fire TV or Firestick device, navigate to the Home Screen.
  • Press the Home button on your Fire TV remote to go to the Settings menu.
  • Go to Applications.
  • Select Manage Installed Applications.
  • Scroll down and go to Video.
  • Select Force Stop.
  • Now, click Clear Data.
  • Navigate back to the main Settings menu.
  • Select Device.
  • Click Restart.

Method #2 – Download your Video Again

If you encountered a license error while downloading a video on Firestick, you may try to redownload it and see if it works. Delete the downloaded video first and then try to download it again.

Method #3 – Check the Country Indicated in your Amazon Prime Account

The error code license_error often occurs when your country settings is set up with the wrong country. Try to double-check and correct it to resolve the content license error.

  • On your Amazon Prime account, go to Your Account.
  • Select Your apps and Devices.
  • Navigate to Devices.
  • Now, look for your Amazon Fire TV and click the Actions button.
  • Go to the Settings tab.
  • Double-check your Country settings.
  • If it is in the wrong country, click Change and select your country.

Method #4 – Update your Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick Device

  • On your Amazon Fire TV, navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Select My Fire TV.
  • Click About.
  • Choose Check for System Update.
  • Install available updates.

Method #5 – Wait for Amazon to Fix It

If Amazon’s server is down, there is nothing you can do but wait for Amazon to fix it. It is only a temporary issue, so best to check it once in a while. You may also access Down Detector to verify whether Amazon’s server is down or not or there is a massive outage happening at the moment.

Method #6 – Factory Reset your Fire TV

If none of the methods above work, you can try to factory reset your Fire TV or Fire TV Stick streamer. But, note that it will delete everything on your Fire TV and reset it to its default or factory setting. You will also need to register and connect your Fire TV to your Amazon account again.

  • If you want to take that risk, go to the Settings menu.
  • Select System.
  • Click Factory Reset.
