The 500 internal server error is nothing new when it comes to problems with browsing content online. When you try to open a website, you may sometimes encounter the 500 error. It means that there is an issue with the website’s server.

More often than not, you don’t have to do anything but wait for the website to fix the error. However, you may also try to resolve the issue by refreshing the website a number of times or power cycling your devices.

But, what if you encounter a 500 error that does not say anything else but only that it is an error. You may see the error message,

“500. That’s an error. There was an error. Please try again later. That’s all we know.”

It may look straightforward but at the same time, confusing as to why it happens. It is not your typical 500 internal server error problem that you see online.

Fixing “500. That’s an error. There was an error. Please try again later.” Google Error

The 500 That’s an error is a Google issue that users experience after accessing their Google apps or website. For instance, you may want to check your Google Calendar, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Google Images, or YouTube, and this problem pop up. It is not limited to the mentioned Google services. The 500 error seems to be a fallback error when something bad or unexpected happens on the Google server at the time of your request.

The question now is, how do you troubleshoot and fix the 500 that’s an error issue?

Method #1 – Try Using your Android or iOS Device

If you are using the web platform on your computer, try to access your Google services on your iPhone or Android device. It may not fix the 500 error, but this solution will help you access your files, services, and account if you need it immediately.

Method #2 – Update your Google Services App

Installing the latest app version of your Google apps will help resolve the error. If you see the problem on your Calendar app, you may want to update it to the latest software version.

Method #3 – Use a Different Browser

If you are using Google Chrome to access your Google accounts, you can try to open them on Microsoft Edge or Mozilla Firefox. Sometimes, the problem is with the browser and not your Google account or the Google server.

Method #4 – Clear the Cache and Cookies on your Browser and App

  • For Android devices, navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Go to Apps and look for the Google app that you are having a problem with.
  • Select Storage.
  • Tap Clear Cache and Clear Data.

  • If you are using a browser, click the Menu.
  • Navigate to More tools or History.
  • Select Clear browsing data.
  • Check the boxes next to cookies and cache.
  • Click Clear Data.

Method #5 – Reinstall your Google Apps

Another way is to uninstall the Google app that may be having the issue. Then, open Google Play Store and reinstall the app.

Method #6 – Report to Google’s Help Center

If none of the solutions above work, you may want to send a report to Google’s Help Center. Go to https://support.google.com/ and indicate the problem you are experiencing.

Method #7 – Wait for Google to Fix It

If all else fails, you cannot do anything but wait for Google to resolve the server issue on their end. Sometimes, it may be a problem with Google’s system, so you cannot do anything about it. Try to check it once in a while if the service is back online. It often just takes a few good minutes for Google to restore their services.
