Fortunately, solutions that will help you resolve and fix the HBO Max app not working issue apply to most devices, whether you stream on Roku media player, Samsung smart TV, PS4, PS5, Amazon Fire TV or Firestick, Android mobile phone or tablet, as well as iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.

Method #1 – Reboot your HBO Max App

The first thing you can do is to exit the HBO Max app on your streaming device and let it still for a few seconds. Try to relaunch the app and see if it works.

Method #2 – Power Cycle your Devices

You may have a problem with your WiFi Internet network connection so refresh it by power cycling your devices. Turn off your streaming device and unplug your router and modem. Wait for at least 1 minute before plugging them back in and connecting to the Internet. Now, turn on your device and try again.

Method #3 – Check HBO Max Server Status

Is the HBO Max server down? If it is, then you don’t need to move a muscle, you just have to wait patiently. There is nothing you can do as it is a problem that HBO Max or WarnerMedia needs to solve by itself. You may want to check their website and official social media channels for status updates on the service once in a while or try to relaunch the app after every few minutes.

Method #4 – Sign Out and Sign In to your HBO Max Account

  • On your browser, go to https://www.hbomax.com/.
  • Navigate to your profile.
  • Select Manage Devices.
  • Look for the device you are using and select it.
  • Click the Sign out button.
  • Now, try to sign in back to your account again after a few minutes.

  • Select System.
  • Click System Update.
  • Select Check Now.
  • If there are available updates for HBO Max, install it.

Updating HBO Max App on Samsung TV

  • On your Samsung TV remote, press the Smart Hub button.
  • Select Apps.
  • Go to My Apps.
  • Click Options.
  • Look for Auto Update and turn it on.

How to Upgrade HBO Max App on PS4 or PS5 Gaming Console

  • On your PS4, go to the Home Screen.
  • Select HBO Max.
  • Press the Options button.
  • Click Check for Updates.
  • For PS5, there are automatic updates for all the apps.

Your HBO Max app itself may be causing the interruption due to several factors. What you can do is to get a fresh installation from the app store. But before you can do that, you need to uninstall, remove, or delete the app from your streaming device first. Then, navigate to the App Store section of your device and reinstall the app.

If none of the methods above work, you can report your issue to HBO Max Help Center. Go to https://help.hbomax.com/ and indicate the details of the error along with your complete information.
