Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge are some of the reliable web browsers that many people use online. Unfortunately, there are instances when error messages appear while using these browsers. One common example is the error ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE.

Whenever you encounter the error, it is accompanied by the message “No data received” or “This page isn’t working.” It occurs whenever the browser cannot transmit the data to your device. There is no response from the website, hence it is not loading.

How to resolve the error message on Edge or Chrome web browser?

There are potential causes of the error message on your browser. One is corrupt data, another is an issue with your network and third, a problem with the server itself. There are also possible cache errors or problematic extensions.

1. Power Cycle your Devices – Computer and Router

Shut down your device and unplug it, if necessary, along with your router. Wait for at least 1 minute, then plug them all back into the power outlet. Turn on your device and try to access the website again.

2. Turn Off Browser Extensions

If the problem is with your browser extension, you may need to disable them. Head over to chrome://extensions/ or edge://extensions/ and look for the possible problematic extension. Now, toggle the button next to it to Off.

3. Clear the Browsing Cache and Cookies

Launch the Settings menu of your browser and navigate to the Privacy settings. Go to Clear Browsing Data. Set the Time Range to All Time and check the boxes next to cache and cookies. Click the Clear Data button.

4. Install the Latest Software Version of your Browser

On the Settings menu, open the About section of your Edge or Chrome. You will then see if your browser is running on the latest version. If there are updates available, click the Update button.

5. Reset your Network Settings on Windows

Launch the Command Prompt on your Windows device and run it as administrator. Now enter the following command one at a time and pressing Enter after each command.

  • ipconfig /release
  • ipconfig /renew
  • ipconfig /flushdns
  • netsh winsock reset
  • net stop dhcp
  • net start dhcp
  • netsh winhttp reset proxy

6. Disable VPN Service

If you are using a VPN server or any proxy server, it may be causing the problem. Try to turn it off temporarily and see if you can open the website.
