How to Troubleshoot & Repair the Windows 10 PC Compatibility Error “This app can’t run on your PC”

Fortunately, there are always some ways to troubleshoot the compatibility error “This app can’t run on your PC” and fix the issue on your Windows 10 PC. Check out each of the solutions below.

Solution #1 – Allow App Side-loading on your PC Settings

  • Launch the Settings menu.
  • Navigate to Update & Security.
  • On the left side, scroll down and select For developers.
  • On the right side, look for the Developer Mode and toggle it to Enable.

Solution #2 – Perform an SFC Scan

  • Open the Command Prompt and select Run as Administrator.
  • Enter the following command: sfc /scannow.
  • After the scan ends, reboot your Windows 10 PC.

Solution #3 – Run App Compatibility Troubleshooter

  • Navigate to the local location of the app executable file. 
  • Right-Click on the file and select Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Click Run Compatibility Troubleshooter.

Solution #4 – Run App as Administrator on Windows 10

  • Go to the local location of the app file.
  • Right-Click on it.
  • Select Run as administrator.
  • Click Yes.
  • To always enable the app to run as an administrator, right-click on the app file.
  • Select Properties.
  • Navigate to the Compatibility tab.
  • Look for the Settings section.
  • Check the box next to Run this program as an administrator. 
  • Click Apply.
  • Click OK.

Solution #5 – Add a New PC Administrator Account

  • Launch the Settings menu.
  • Select Accounts.
  • Click Family & other users.
  • Go to Other users.
  • Select Add someone else to this PC.
  • Click I don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
  • Select Add a user without a Microsoft account.
  • Type the name and password of the new administrator account.
  • Once done, look for the new administrator account under the Other user section.
  • Click to open it.
  • Select Change account type.
  • Set the account type to Administrator. 
  • Click OK.

Solution #6 – Turn Off Windows Defender SmartScreen Feature

  • On the Search bar, enter SmartScreen.
  • Select Change SmartScreen settings.
  • Navigate to the Security section.
  • Select Windows SmartScreen.
  • Click Change settings.
  • Choose Do not do anything to disable Windows Defender SmartScreen tool.
  • Click OK.

Solution #7 – Temporarily Turn Off Windows Defender

  • Launch the Settings menu.
  • Go to Update & Security.
  • Select Windows Security.
  • Go to Virus & threat protection.
  • Click Manage settings.
  • Look for Real-time protection and toggle it to Off.
