Not all files are safe to download. Sometimes, they are masked as malwares, which can cause the worst problems on your device. To help you detect these malicious softwares or files, Chrome increases its protection feature and gives you a warning.

When Chrome detects a suspicious warning, it will show error messages such as “Insecure Download Blocked” or “This file can’t be downloaded securely” and blocks the download from going further. Some of the reasons may include unfamiliar files, downloads may have been provided insecurely, deceptive software, or malicious programs.

However, there may be instances when you are familiar with the file or software you want to download but still Google Chrome browser blocked it. If you verified that the download is legitimate, you may be able to bypass it with a few simple methods.

Chrome’s safe browsing feature offers an extra layer of protection whenever you browse online. It constantly tries to detect suspicious activities when enabled. This may be the reason why your download is blocked.

To continue with the download, you may need to disable safe browsing. But, take note to always turn it back on after you finish downloading to reinstate added protection when browsing.

On your Chrome browser, click the three-dotted icon and go to Settings. Open Privacy and security and click Security. Head over to Safe Browsing and choose No protection. Click the Turn Off button once the warning pops up.

Another way is to download the file in Incognito mode. Still, you may need to temporarily disable the safe browsing feature and turn it back on again after downloading the file. To download in incognito, simply open the New Incognito Window from the menu.
