The following methods are possible solutions that can help you troubleshoot the problem with your Edge or Chrome web browser apps. Since we may not know the cause of the error, you can just try each of the ways below one at a time and see if it works for you.

1. Temporarily Disable Windows Security

One of the possible causes of the download error is with your antivirus. You can try to turn it off first and download a file. To do so, search for Windows Security on your device and open the settings. Head over to Virus & threat protection. Select Manage Settings and disable the Real-time protection. Click Yes if prompted with the User Account Control interface.

2. Perform a Repair on your Browser

Launch the Settings menu and go to Apps. Look for your Edge or Chrome browser. Select Modify and click Repair. Wait for the process to finish and try again.

3. Try to Reset your Browser to Default Settings

On your Microsoft Edge browser, click the three-dotted icon. Select Settings and look for Reset Settings. Click Restore settings to their default values and click the Reset button.

4. Remove Protection from your Chrome Browser

This method will stop Google Chrome from deleting your files. However, enabling no protection is not always recommended. Take note that you have to do this at your own risk if you want to follow this method.

To remove protection, click the three-dotted icon on your Chrome browser. Navigate to Settings and select Privacy and Security. Click Security. Go to Safe Browsing. You will then see the No Protection (not recommended) option. Select it.
