If you are currently using Apple’s HomePod smart speaker devices, you are in for an exciting treat! Now, Apple is giving its HomePod users a chance to immerse themselves in a high-definition lossless playback experience with Apple Music.
Introducing the Lossless Audio from Apple Music that will be made available and supported on the HomePod devices. Users will be able to enjoy better and more high-quality audio than before.
Both the HomePod and the HomePod Mini speakers offer a surround audio experience with support and access to Siri using voice commands. You can control your smart home using your iPhone plus a connection to your home sound system.

According to Apple, users have two options when setting the quality when streaming music with the Lossless Audio on Apple Music. You can choose to play songs either through the Lossless setting or the Hi-Res Lossless setting. Lossless will give you up to 48kHz of lossless audio, while the Hi-Res Lossless is between 48kHz to 192kHz.
This is done through Apple’s own proprietary lossless audio compression technology called Apple Lossless Audio Codec (ALAC).
How to Setup and Listen to Apple Music Lossless Audio on HomePod or HomePod Mini Smart Speakers
Note that the Apple Lossless Audio feature on Apple Music is now available for both HomePod and HomePod Mini devices.
Update your HomePod’s Firmware to Latest Version
To set up the Apple Music Lossless Audio mode and listen to HD lossless music on your HomePod smart speaker, you need to update the device software or firmware of your HomePod.
- To update your HomePod device software, launch the Home app on your iPhone.Â
- Go to the Home section.
- Tap the Home icon.
- Select Home Settings.
- Choose Software Update.

Using your HomePod and HomePod Mini to Stream Apple Music Lossless Audio
After you update the firmware of your HomePod, the Lossless Audio option will appear on your Home app. You will need to enable it manually to enjoy the feature and play your favorite tunes in a lossless format.
- Navigate to the Home menu of your Home app.
- Tap the Home icon.
- Go to Home Settings.
- Navigate to the Media section.
- Select Apple Music.
- Look for the Lossless Audio and Dolby Atmos.Â
- Toggle the button to Enable.
Wrapping Up!
Unfortunately, there is no Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos for HomePod Mini speakers. However, you can connect a pair of your HomePod mini to the new Apple TV 4K to listen to spatial audio.
