When it comes to account and online safety, one of the most recommended security measures is to change your password now and then. Your password along with your username is your entryway to your online accounts. While it keeps them secured, getting your password hacked will make your accounts more vulnerable.
If you want to keep your Spotify music streaming account protected, it is best to change your password once in a while. But, there is a difference between changing and resetting it.
When you change passwords, it means you want to delete the old one and change it with something new. Resetting would indicate that you have forgotten your password and want to retrieve your account by getting a new password set.
Spotify allows you to change your password anytime you want whether you are using a free account or subscribed to a premium plan. If ever you forgot it, it is also easy to perform a reset as well.
How to Change Spotify Account Password on Android or iPhone
If you are using the Spotify streaming app on your Android or iOS device, can you change your account password directly through it? Unfortunately, you cannot change your password through the Spotify app on an Android phone or tablet and iPhone or iPad. There is no option in the account settings to change the password.
To initiate changing your Spotify account password, you need to access Spotify.com on your web browser both on a mobile device and desktop computer.
- Login to your account on Spotify.com.
- In the upper right corner, click Profile.
- Select Account.
- Click Change Password.
- Enter your current password.
- Now, type your new password.
- Reenter your new password.
- Click Set New Password.
Take note that if you have created your Spotify account using your Facebook profile, you will not find an option to change your password on the account page. Since both your accounts are linked, you will need to change your password on Facebook which in effect will change the password you are using for your Spotify account. With your Facebook credentials used as Spotify login, you can specify and set a device password on the account settings.
How to Perform a Reset on your Spotify Password on Android or iPhone App
If ever you forget your Spotify password when logging in to your Spotify app, you can reset it through your Spotify streaming app on Android or iOS.
But, keep in mind that you will need your account email address to perform a password reset process. You cannot initiate the reset method without knowing the email address associated with your Spotify account. And, that’s the main requirement to recover your account. Here’s how to do it:
- On your Spotify app, select Email.
- Choose Login.
- Tap Forgot your password or Login without a password.
- Enter the email address you used on your Spotify account.
- Open your email client and check the reset email message from Spotify.
- Click Go to Spotify.
- Enter your new password.
- You can now log in using your new password.
Another way to reset your password is to go to https://www.spotify.com/us/password-reset/ on any web browser. Enter your username or email address for your account. You will then receive an email message with the reset link to Spotify.
