The error code 0xc0000006 comes with the status message, “C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\xxxxxxxxxxx is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system administrator or the software vendor for support. Error status 0xc0000006.”

Method #1 – Perform a Full Scan on your PC for Viruses and Malware

  • Click the Start button on your Windows 10 or 11 PC.
  • On the Search box, enter Windows Security and click the Windows Security app on the results.
  • Select Virus & threat protection.
  • Navigate to Current Threats.
  • Click Scan options.
  • Select Full Scan.
  • Click the Scan Now button.
  • Once done, you can choose to Delete the threat or Quarantine it.

Method #2 – Run an SFC and a DISM Scan

It helps to perform the SFC scan first, then the DISM Scan.

  • Click the Start button.
  • On the Search box, enter cmd.
  • Look for Command Prompt on the search results and right-click on it.
  • Select Run As Administrator.
  • On the Command Prompt, enter sfc /scannow.
  • Once done, enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth.
  • After the scan, enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth.
  • Then, enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Reboot your Windows 10 or 11 PC.

Method #3 – Uninstall the Windows Updates

  • If you are using Windows 10 PC, navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Select Update and Security.
  • Go to Windows Update.
  • Choose View update history.
  • Click Uninstall updates.
  • If you have a Windows 11 PC, launch the Settings menu.
  • Go to Windows Update.
  • Select update History.
  • Navigate to Related Settings.
  • Choose Uninstall updates.
  • Look for the Update for Microsoft Windows and right-click on it.
  • Select Uninstall.

Method #4 – Perform the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter

  • Open the Settings menu on your Windows PC.
  • Select System.
  • Go to Troubleshoot.
  • Choose Other troubleshooters.
  • Navigate to Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
  • Click the Run button.
  • Choose the program that is causing the error.
  • Click Next.
  • Continue with the instructions.

Method #5 – Uninstall and Reinstall the App or Program

  • Click the Start button.
  • Go to Apps & Features.
  • Look for the program you want to uninstall and click to open it.
  • Select Uninstall.
  • Choose Uninstall again to confirm.
  • Now, reinstall the app.

Method #6 – Run a System Restore

  • First, launch the Run Dialog Box. You can press the Windows Key + R for a shortcut.
  • Enter rstrui.exe.
  • Click the Next button.
  • Look for the Show more restore points and check the box.
  • Choose the time and date when you want to go back. Make sure to choose before you encounter a bad image error.
  • Click Next.
  • Click the Finish button.
  • Select Yes to confirm.
