Fix Camera Not Showing up or Missing in Device Manager on Windows 10/11

There are different ways for you to fix the webcam device missing or deleted error in your Device Manager on PC. You can follow each solution below one at a time and check if you can find your camera in your settings or not.

Method #1 – Restart your PC

  • Go to the Start button.
  • Click the Power button.
  • Select Restart.
  • After rebooting, check if the camera is on the Device Manager.

Method #2 – Run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter

  • Go to Update & Security.
  • Click Troubleshoot.
  • Look for Hardware and Devices.
  • Click the Run the troubleshooter button.
  • After scanning the troubleshooter, click the Apply this fix button for the resolutions.

Method #3 – Perform a Scan for Hardware Changes

  • Click the Start button.
  • Navigate to the Control Panel.
  • Select System and Security.
  • Click Device Manager.
  • Go to the Action tab.
  • Click Scan for hardware changes.

Method #4 – Try to Turn On the Camera

  • Open the Settings menu.
  • Go to Privacy.
  • Click Camera.
  • Look for the Camera access for this device is on and click the Change button.
  • Go to Allow apps to access your camera and toggle the button to On.

Method #5 – Add Legacy Hardware

  • Navigate to the Device Manager window.
  • Go to the Action tab.
  • Click Add legacy hardware.
  • A new window will open. Click Next.
  • Select the Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced) option.
  • Click Next.
  • Choose Cameras.
  • Click Next.
  • Select the Camera Driver.
  • Click Next.
  • If the camera list is empty, select Imaging Devices from the list of devices.
  • Click Next.
  • Choose the first option.
  • Click Next.
  • Restart your computer.

Method #6 – Reset the Camera App

  • Open the Settings menu.
  • Select Apps.
  • Go to the Apps & Features tab.
  • Look for the Camera app.
  • Select Advanced Options.
  • Go to the Reset section.
  • Click the Reset button.
