Method #1 – Use the Settings Menu on your Windows 10 Computer

  • Click the Start button.
  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Go to Devices.
  • Scroll down and select Touchpad.
  • Look for the Touchpad option, and toggle the button to Off.
  • Under it, you will see the Leave touchpad on when a mouse is connected. You can also uncheck the box next to it.

Method #2 – Edit Settings Using the Device Manager

  • Click the Start button.
  • Select Device Manager.
  • Look for Mice and other pointing devices. Click the drop-down arrow to expand the menu.
  • Look for your touchpad driver, and right-click on it.
  • Select Disable Device.

Method #3 – Change your Mouse Settings from Control Panel

  • Click the Start button.
  • Open the Control Panel.
  • Select Hardware and Sound.
  • Click Mouse.
  • Navigate to the Device Settings.
  • Highlight your touchpad, and click the Disable button.
  • Under it, go to the Disable internal pointing devices when the external USB pointing device is attached option.

Method #4 – Disable ETD Control Center from the Task Manager

  • Launch the Task Manager on your Windows 10 PC. You can also press the keys Ctrl + Shift + Esc.
  • Go to the Startup tab.
  • Look for the ETD Control Center and highlight it.
  • Click the Disable button.

Method #5 – Modify your Registry Editor

  • Launch the Run dialog box. You can press the Windows key and R.
  • Enter regedit.
  • Click OK.
  • Enter the following: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad\Status.
  • Look for the Enabled entry, and double-click on it.
  • Under Value data, enter 0.
  • Click OK.
