Despite their features, form factor, and usage, Chromebooks, with the ChromeOS have more in common with tablets and smartphones than your standard PC. Because of this, the general fixes recommended for Chromebook computer features that are not working tend to align with those for smartphones.

We’ll guide you through the process today to make things easier. With enough effort, your Chromebook laptop device screen display should be auto-rotating again in no time.

Refresh Chromebook Display

  • Sometimes, your Chromebook may freeze itself into a single orientation.
  • To fix this, you’ll need to refresh the screen manually.
  • From your home screen, press the Ctrl, Shift and Refresh buttons simultaneously.
  • This refreshes your screen, alongside its orientation and settings.
  • Now, your Chromebook should be able to auto-rotate again.

Power Down your Chromebook

  • Go to the ChromeOS search bar.
  • Select the option to shut down your Chromebook.
  • Give it a minute or two to power down fully.
  • Turn your Chromebook back on.
  • Test the auto-rotate function.

Restore Chromebook to Default Settings 

  • Go to the ChromeOS settings menu.
  • Select the Advanced settings.
  • Choose the option “Restore settings to their original defaults.”
  • Wait for your Chromebook to finish resetting.
  • Once it’s done, test the auto-rotate function.

Factory Reset your Chromebook

  • If everything else fails, your last resort is to factory reset your Chromebook.
  • Sign out from your Chromebook account.
  • Press and hold the Ctrl, Alt, Shift, and R buttons.
  • Select the option to restart your Chromebook.
  • When prompted, choose to Powerwash (factory reset) your Chromebook.
  • Continue as normal.
  • Once your Chromebook is back up, test the auto-rotate function,
