How to Repair Operation Failed Attachment Error on Microsoft Outlook


The solutions below depend on the factor that causes the problem and your Microsoft Outlook client version. This guide applies to MS Outlook 2016, 2013, 2010, 2019, and Outlook for Office 365 on Windows 10 PC.

Method #1 – Disable AutoSave on Outlook

  • On your Microsoft Outlook, click File.
  • Go to Options.
  • Select Mail.
  • Look for the option Automatically Save Items that have not been sent after this many minutes.
  • Uncheck the box.
  • Restart your Microsoft Outlook.

Method #2 – Uncheck Compatibility Mode in Microsoft Outlook


If your Microsoft Outlook is running on Compatibility Mode, you can change it to the Normal Mode.

  • On your desktop, right-click on the Outlook icon.
  • Click Properties.
  • Go to the Compatibility tab.
  • Look for the option Run this program in compatibility mode.
  • If there is a check on the box, uncheck it.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click OK.

Method #3 – Disable Your Antivirus Software

If you are using antivirus software, you can try disabling the application first. Then, see if it fixes the error in your Microsoft Outlook.

Method #4 – Update Your Microsoft Outlook App

  • Click File on your Microsoft Outlook.
  • Go to Office Account.
  • Look for Update Options and click it.
  • Click Update Now.
  • Restart your Outlook.

Method #5 – Repair Microsoft Office Suite or Outlook

  • Press Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  • Type appwiz.cpl and hit Enter.
  • Look for Microsoft Office or Outlook.
  • Right-click on the icon or name.
  • Click Change.
  • Click Yes.
  • First, select Quick Repair.
  • Click OK.
  • Click Repair.
  • Click Continue.
  • After the process is complete, restart your computer.
  • If it does not fix the error, you might want to try it again but this time, select Online Repair instead of Quick Repair.

Method #6 – Enable Cached Exchange Mode

  • Click File on your Microsoft Outlook.
  • Go to Account Settings.
  • Select Account Settings again.
  • Navigate to the Email tab.
  • Click your account.
  • Select Change.
  • Look for the Exchange account settings.
  • Click the More Settings button.
  • Go to the Advanced tab.
  • Look for the Use Cached Exchange Mode.
  • First, disable it. Then, enable it back.
  • Restart your Outlook.
