Google Chrome has had its fair share of errors and now we are back, this time with someone who complains in Google product forums that he has problems with the mouse functionality when using the Chrome browser under Windows 10, 8.1. The Chrome version, which seems to be the latest version.

What Causes the Scrolling Wheel to Stop Working in Google Chrome Browser?

There are a number of different things that can prevent the scroll wheel from working in Google Chrome. We decided to create a list of possible causes that you can try. Determining the right cause can help you find the perfect method faster, so be sure to go through the following list.

  • Smooth Scrolling – The fluid scrolling is probably already performed by the mouse management program installed by the manufacturer. Therefore, it is important to disable fluid scrolling in Google Chrome from an experimental point of view.
  • Extensions – Google Chrome extensions that manage mouse movement and scrolling can also cause problems, so be sure to disable them and see if the problem persists.

Apparently, the problem only arises when Chrome is used in the modern user interface (or Metro, as some still call it). When using the Chrome browser in desktop mode under Windows 10, 8.1, no problems were detected.

If the Chrome reset does not work as expected and you still do not see the scroll bar, you should try to reinstall Chrome.

  1. Close Chrome. Open the settings by pressing the Windows+I key to open the settings. Click on Apps here.
  2. Scroll down a little under Apps & Features to find Chrome. Touch it once to display the Uninstall option. Note that you can also uninstall from the Control Panel.
  3. Press Windows+E to launch the File Explorer and select the following folder structure to delete the Chrome folder. Be sure to make a backup copy on a USB stick first.
    • C:\Username\\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome
    • C:\Program files\Google\Chrome
  4. Replace with the username of your Windows PC. If the AppData folder does not appear, right-click DeepL Access and select Options.

If you often have problems with the mouse scroll wheel in your Chrome browser, you’ll probably also find “Chrome Unresponsive Pages” and “Aw, Snap!” Something went wrong when this website was shown. Problems too.

This may be the result of specific services, programs or browser extensions provided by third parties. Therefore, to solve Google’s chromium scrolling problem that doesn’t work on your Windows 10 computer, use the Chromium Cleaning Tool (formerly known as the Software Removal Tool), which is a free Windows program designed by Google.

  1. To perform a manual scan using the Chrome Cleaning Tool, open the Chrome browser, type chrome://settings/cleanup in the browser address bar, and then press Enter to go to the Chrome “Clean Computer” page.
  2. If this option is enabled, the report generation option will send data from Google, such as programs running on your computer, scheduled tasks, registry values, file names, extensions, and modules associated with unwanted programs. This data is used to improve the definitions used by the Chrome Cleanup Tool and is stored by Google for 14 days.
  3. After you decide if you want to send information to Google, you can start a search for unwanted software by clicking the Search button. This process can take some time, so be patient.
  4. When the scan is complete, it indicates that nothing has been found or displays a list of threats.
  5. Again on this screen there is an option to send information about what has been detected to Google, which can be turned off. When you are ready to remove unwanted software, click the Remove button.
  6. Windows will display a UAC message asking if you want to allow the Chrome cleaning tool to make changes to your computer. If you want to delete the detected items, click the Yes button to continue.
  7. The Chrome Cleanup Tool will remove any detected software and, when completed, will display a message indicating that you must restart your computer to complete the removal of unwanted software.
