How to Troubleshoot, Clear & Bypass the Roku HDCP Error Detected Error Message on your Device

While there are varying reasons for the HDCP video content playback error to appear on your Roku player or smart TV device, there are also several ways to troubleshoot the problem and fix it easily.

Check out the methods below and how you can clear and bypass the HDCP detected error code on Roku streaming media players and smart TVs.

Method #1 – Edit HDR and Display Refresh Rate on Roku

  • Launch the Settings menu on your Roku device.
  • Go to System.
  • Select Advanced System Settings.
  • Choose Advanced Display Settings.
  • Look for the Auto-adjust Display Refresh Rate. Set it to Disabled.
  • Navigate to HDR Subsampling.
  • Set the values to 4:2:0.

Method #2 – Power Cycle your Roku Device

  • First, unplug the power cords from your TV and Roku device.
  • Next, unplug the HDMI cable from your TV and Roku device.
  • Then, wait for at least 10 minutes before you reconnect both ends of your HDMI cable to your TV and Roku device.
  • Lastly, plug in the power cords of your Roku device and TV.
  • Now, restart your Roku device and TV.

Sometimes, the problem is with your HDMI cable. You may be using a worn-out or damaged cord on your TV or Roku device. Check your HDMI cable for any signs of damage or wear and tear. If you have an extra compatible HDMI cable, you can switch it and retry if it works. You can also connect to a different HDMI port or switch both ends on your TV and Roku device.

Method #4 – Change the Display Type of your Roku Setting

  • Open the Settings menu of your Roku device.
  • Select Display Type.
  • Choose Auto Detect.
