Install and Use Google Assistant on Samsung Galaxy Watch

Having a smartwatch gives you the utmost convenience on the daily basis. But, Samsung Galaxy smartwatches are not natively equipped with Google Assistant. In this article, you will know the steps on how you can install Google Assistant on your Samsung smartwatch.

Take note that you can install Google Assistant only if your smartwatch is running on Tizen 4.0 and later.

Before you can install the Google Assistant on your Samsung Galaxy Smartwatch, you first need to install a few apps to help you set up your Google Assistant.

  • Go to the Google Play Store and search Galaxy Wearable.
  • Select the Galaxy Wearable (Samsung Gear).
  • Click Install.
  • Now, when you have installed the app, launch it on your smartphone.
  • Go to the Galaxy Store.
  • Search for GAssist.
  • From the search result, click GAssist.Net. Choose the app that is developed by Kamil Kierski.
  • Click Install.
  • Click Accept and Download.
  • Go back to the Google Play Store.
  • This time, search for GAssist.Net Companion. It is developed by cybernetic87.
  • Click Install.

How to Create a Google Assistant API on Google Cloud Platform

Once you have all three apps on your smartphone, you will need to create your Google Assistant API.

  • Open any browser and navigate to the Google Cloud Platform.
  • Login to your Google account.
  • At the top of the screen, click Select a project.
  • Click New Project found at the upper right corner of the new pop-up window.
  • Look for the Project name and type the name you want.
  • Click Create.
  • On the upper left corner of your Google Cloud Platform, click the three-line icon.
  • Select APIs & Services.
  • On the Dashboard, look for the project you created.
  • On the top of the screen, click Enable APIs & Services.
  • When you are at the API Library, search for Google Assistant.
  • Click the Google Assistant API.
  • Next, click Enable.
  • Now, inside the Google Assistant API, click Create Credentials.
  • Under the Credentials option, look for Which API Are You Using.
  • Click the drop-down menu and choose Google Assistant API.
  • Next, look for Where Will You Be Calling the API From.
  • Click the drop-down menu and choose Android.
  • Look for What Data Will You Be Accessing and select User Data.
  • Now, click What Credentials Do I Need.
  • A pop-up window will appear. Select Set Up Consent Screen.
  • Under the User Type, select either Internal or External.
  • Now, click Create.
  • Under the OAuth consent screen, fill in the Application name and click Save.
  • On the sidebar, go to Credentials.
  • Click Create Credentials.
  • Choose OAuth Client ID.
  • Look for the Application type and choose TVs and Limited Input Devices or Other.
  • Under the Name option, you can use the default or change it any name you want.
  • Click Create.
  • Go back to Credentials from the sidebar.
  • Look for the OAuth Client ID you created and on the side, click the Download icon.

Downloading the JSON File to Your Android Smartphone

  • Plug in your smartphone to your computer.
  • Look for the JSON file or the API file that you previously created.
  • Copy it to your Downloads folder.
  • Rename the file secrets.json.
  • On your smartphone, launch the GAssist app.
  • Tap Browse.
  • Go to the Downloads folder.
  • Tap secrets.json.
  • Once the file has been loaded successfully, click Next.
  • Tap Authenticate.
  • Choose the account you want to use with your Google Assistant.
  • Tap Allow.
  • Tap Allow again.
  • An authentication code will appear. You need to copy it. Click the Copy button on the right.
  • Go back to your GAssist app.
  • Paste the authentication code in the text box.
  • Tap OK.
  • Tap Done. Make sure you have all three green checks.

  1. On your smartwatch, open the GAssist app.
  2. Allow GAssist access to your storage and microphone.

You can launch your Google Assistant by double-pressing the Home key. But, you need to set it up first.

  • Navigate to Settings
  • Go to Advanced.
  • Select Double Press Home Key
  • Tap GAssist Net.

When you need to speak Hey Google! to your Google Assistant, tap Listen. If you want to end the response of your Google Assistant, tap Stop.

  1. has google blocked this? I get a message saying the developer hasn’t given you access to this app when I get to authentication part on android

    • In your google cloud platform go to OAuth consent screen
      and set your status to public and external .That works for me on Samsung galaxy watch 3
