Calling all Microsoft Windows PC gamers! Your Xbox app released a new feature that will make your game installation a lot easier on your computer. Microsoft now gives you the option to install and save your game downloads to any folder you want on your Windows 10 or 11 PC.
You no longer have to save all your games in the WindowsApps or XboxGames folders. The updated version of the Xbox app for PC allows you to select and choose any folder you want and is not limited to your C: drive anymore. That means you can freely access your games at any time.
Before the latest update, Windows users can only install games from the Xbox companion app on a dedicated folder, which is challenging to access without permissions on your OS. Games cannot be moved around or modified.
By allowing more location options for installing the games, Windows users can back up their game files easily and restore them later on, including the saves.

How to Install PC Games to Any Folder on your Xbox App for Windows 10 or 11 Computer
Before you start selecting the game file location for your favorite game installation, you will need to download and install the latest version of your Xbox app for Windows first. Here’s how to update your app now.
- Click the Start button.
- Go to Microsoft Store.
- Navigate to Library.
- Select Get updates.
- Click Update all.
- Restart your Windows 10 or 11 PC.
If you plan to install a new game, all you have to do is go to the Xbox app. Look for the game you want to download. Before installing, the app will ask you to choose the folder where you want to install the game. Select your desired folder and install.
For existing games, you do not need to uninstall and reinstall them. If you want to relocate the game files, go to the Xbox app. Look for the games you want to move and right-click on them. Go to Manage and allow the new installation and game management features.
