Freeing up some space in your Gmail is a challenge hence you need to move Gmail photos to Google Photos. Rather than taking up much of the limited space you’ve got on your email, you can save your photos to the unlimited storage space offered by Google Photos.

But, while it seems easier to save your photos to Google Drive, such process does not work now. Google changed their policy regarding how Google Drive and Google Photos work so both are no longer linked together.

What you do add or delete in your Drive does not automatically sync with your Google Photos. All the same, changes in your Google Photos do not affect your Google Drive.

Still, there are some ways that allows you to move your Gmail photos to your Google Photos. Check out the methods below:

Method 1 – Transfer Gmail Photos to Google Photos via Google Drive

  • Go to your email with photos that you want to move.
  • Move down to the attachment section and on each photo, you will see the Drive icon next to the download icon. Click to save to your Google Drive.
  • Once you have done it to all of your photos, open a new tab and go to photos.google.com.
  • Login to your account.
  • On the upper right-side corner, click Upload.
  • Choose Google Drive.
  • It will open a new window with your photos on Google Drive.
  • Select all the photos that you want to upload to Google Photos.
  • Wait for the upload to finish.
  • Once done, go to your Google drive account.
  • Delete all the photos that you just moved to Google Photos. This will save you some storage space in your Google Drive.
