Beats Electronics, also popularly known as Beats by Dr. Dre or simply Beats by Dre, is the massively popular consumer audio products manufacturer made famous by its classic Beats earphones and headphones products. Since 2014, the company has been a subsidiary of Apple, and as a result, functions well alongside smartphone and tablet devices, such as iPhones and iPads, as well as other platforms that support Bluetooth audio output.

As with all technology, it can be important to update the firmware on your product or device to ensure that it has the latest features and updates to resolve any issues or bugs that you may have been experiencing. For users of Beats products, such as Earphones, Headphones, or Speakers, this may be a confusing thing to do, as it is not entirely clear how to do it. Therefore, this article will explain how to update the firmware on your Beats Earphones, Headphones, or Speakers.

Officially Retired Solution: Beats Updater

Previously, the way to keep your Beats up to date with the latest firmware was through the use of the Beats Updater Mac application. However, it has been discontinued, and will no longer update your Beats products – so should be removed from your Mac.

Steps to Update Software Device of Beats Wireless Headphones, Speakers, or Earphones

To update the firmware of your Beats products now that the Beats Updater software is retired, the process is now done via your mobile device. The way that this is done will depend on which device you are using however, as the process varies depending on if you have an Apple smartphone or smart device, or an Android smartphone or smart device.

If you have paired your Beats produce with any Apple smart device, such as an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, your Beats device will update automatically when they are synced and connected to the Apple device. To do this, the Apple device that your Beats are connected to must have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, depending on the device, as well as have an internet connection.

Furthermore, Apple’s official support states that the following Beats products are updateable via this method.

  • Powerbeats
  • Powerbeats Pro
  • Powerbeats3 Wireless
  • Solo Pro
  • Beats Solo3 Wireless
  • Beats Studio3 Wireless
  • BeatsX
  • Beats Flex
  • Beats Studio Buds
  • Beats Fit Pro

Device Software or Firmware Update on Beats Headphones, Earphones, or Speakers for Android Users

Android unfortunately does not offer automatic updating of Beats electronic products however, so to update your Beats products on Android, you will need to download the Beats app from the Google Play Store.

Once you have downloaded the app, you will have to pair any Beats devices that you wish to use and update, and then in there you will have access to many features such as:

  1. See the battery percentage of your Beats. 
  2. Check for firmware updates.
  3. Rename the Beats.
  4. Register, Serial Number, Product Information section.

To update your Beats Pill+, instead if you are on iOS or iPadOS you must download and use the Beats Pill+ app as the Beats device does not currently support auto updates.

For Android users, you can update your Beats Pill+ via the regular Android Beats app.
