A VPN connection issue was reported from several users after installing the April 2024 Patch Tuesday update. It also triggered a problem with profile pictures setting.
To resolve the error, Microsoft recently released its May 2024 security update highlighting the VPN problem. Aside from the security patches, users can now fix the VPN connection problem by updating their Windows device.

The May 2024 Patch Tuesday is under KB5037765 with build 19045.4412. Windows 11 users with device version 22H2 and 23H2 can install the KB5037771 while Windows 10 users with version 22H2 can select KB5037768.
Unfortunately, a new problem arises as the update installation process may be disrupted for Windows Server 2019. It shows the error code 0x800f0982. However, users of Windows Home and Pro may be spared from experiencing the installation issue.
Workaround to Try for Windows 10 May 2024 Security Updates Failure with Error Code 0x800f0982
While Microsoft is yet to release an official fix for the glitch, several IT Admins may have found a temporary workaround to resolve the upgrade installation problem. Since the error indicates the issue arising on devices without the EN-US language pack support, a quick solution is to install the EN-US language pack.
To install the EN-US language pack, you need to have a network connection.
- Navigate to Settings.
- Select Time & language.
- Go to Language & region.
- Choose Preferred languages.
- Click Add a language.
- Select EN-US language and hit Next.
- Choose the features and click Install.
However, for those who are working offline, you need to download the ISO and install the EN-US language pack via lpksetup.exe on Windows Run Box.
