However, some users complained that they receive the error message, “Please exit any app that might be drawing over the screen and try again” on mobile. The error pops up when they try to make a payment or set up the Google app on Android device. This is more recently prominent to OnePlus phone users.

How to Troubleshoot Issue and Fix “Please exit any apps that might be drawing on screen” Google Pay Error

Fortunately, there are several ways to troubleshoot and fix the Google Pay payment issue on Android phone. You can follow each method one at a time and check if the error persists.

Solution #1 – Hide Virtual Keys on Android

If you have virtual navigation keys, it is best to hide them. 

  • Open the Settings menu of your smartphone.
  • Go to Navigation Keys.
  • Look for the Virtual Keys can be hidden option and disable it.

Solution #2 – Disable Permissions for Other Apps to Display Over 

  • Launch the Settings menu of your device.
  • Select Apps and notification.
  • Go to Special app access.
  • Tap Display over the apps.
  • Look for apps that have permission to display over other apps.

Solution #3 – Disable Apps with Floating Windows

If your mobile device has apps with floating windows, you can turn it off.

  • Navigate to the Settings menu of your device.
  • Go to Security. In some phones, select App Management.
  • Look for Floating Windows.
  • On each app, disable the floating windows feature.
  • Restart your device. 

Solution #4 – Turn Off Apps With Added Display on Screen

If you have apps that reduce the strain on your eyes or add another layer on the display screen, they may be the reason why you encounter the Google Pay error. You can turn it off first and check if you can proceed with Google Pay.
