When your Windows PC runs into a serious issue and experiences a system crash, it automatically shows the Blue Screen of Death or BSOD error. It includes a stop code for you to identify the problem and find the solutions. One example is the FATAL_UNHANDLED_HARD_ERROR 0x0000004C.

With the 0x4c BSOD stop error, the following error message appears: “Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info, and then we’ll restart for you.”

Before you begin, make sure to unplug external hardwares from your computer.

#1 – Reboot your PC in Safe Mode

Turn off your Windows PC and turn it back on. On the Windows sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key first, then go to the Power icon and select Restart. Wait for your PC to restart. Select Troubleshoot in the Choose an option screen. Go to Advanced options. Choose Startup Settings and click Restart. After the reboot, press the F5 key to enter Safe Mode with Networking.

#2 – Uninstall Installed Software

Have you recently installed software prior to the BSOD error? It might be the reason for the problem. In Safe Mode, head over to the Apps & features settings of your computer. Look for the software and click it. Click the Uninstall button.

#3 – Perform a SFC Scan Routine

Launch the Command Prompt and run it as administrator. Click Yes or OK. Enter the following command: sfc /scannow.

#4 – Try to Roll Back Newly Installed Drivers

Open the Device Manager settings on your PC. Click Display Drivers and right-click on your drivers. Select Properties. Go to the Driver tab and click the Roll Back Driver button. 

#5 – Seek Help from Microsoft

Go to https://support.microsoft.com/home/contact. Type Troubleshoot BSOD error and click the Get Help button. Now, follow the instructions on your screen.
