Does your Instagram feed show “Couldn’t Refresh Feed” each time you refresh the page? It happens for a number of reasons. Many users get annoyed by not seeing any posts and updates on their feeds, especially if they are waiting for new information to check on the social media platform.

Unfortunately, you will encounter the error message if there is something wrong with your device, your Internet network connection or mobile data, or your Instagram mobile app or a case of a blocked account. Even if you keep on hitting the refresh button on your Android phone or iPhone, it will continue to load the error if you do not fix the issue.

How to Troubleshoot & Fix Instagram Feed Not Updating or Refreshing Problem

Since the possible causes of the Instagram Feed error can be your network connection, social media app, or mobile device, you can focus your solutions from there. You can find below several troubleshooting methods and workarounds that will help you resolve and fix the Instagram social feed refresh issue.

Method #1 – Check your Network Connection

Make sure you have a reliable Internet signal to load your Instagram Feed. It will not update or refresh new posts if you have no network signal. You can do a speed test or switch to a different connection. For instance, you can use your mobile data if your WiFi connection is not good.

Method #2 – Restart your Mobile Device

A quick reboot on your mobile device will refresh your connection. Exit the Instagram app and other running apps in the background. Power off your ANdroid or iOS phone or tablet for a few minutes before you restart it.

Method #3 – Sign Out and Sign In on your Instagram Account

  • On your Instagram app, tap the three-lined icon at the top right corner.
  • Select Settings.
  • Tap Log Out.
  • Now, sign back in to your Instagram account.

Method #4 – Check Instagram Service Status

Is Instagram down at the moment? It may be the reason why your feed does not update or refresh. Check the Instagram service status on Downdetector. If the server is down, you cannot do anything except wait for Instagram to fix the issue on their end.

Method #5 – Clear the Instagram App Cache

  • For Android devices, navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Select Apps.
  • Choose Instagram.
  • Tap Storage.
  • Tap Clear Cache.
  • For iOS devices, you need to reinstall the app to clear the cache.

Method #6 – Update your Instagram App

  • Go to Google Play Store or the App Store.
  • Select Manage Apps or Apps.
  • Look for Instagram.
  • Tap the Update button if available.
  • Restart your device.

Method #7 – Reinstall the Instagram App

You need to uninstall the Instagram app first based on your device’s instructions. Navigate to the Store section of your device and install Instagram.

Method #8 – Check if your Instagram Account is Blocked

Your account may be temporarily blocked on Instagram without you knowing it.

  • On the Instagram app, navigate to your Account.
  • Tap the three-lined icon.
  • Select Settings.
  • Go to Security.
  • Choose Access Data.
  • Check if there is a warning message for you. If there is, you need to follow the instructions on how to unblock your account.
