Apple’s Magic Keyboard is an ultra-premium wireless keyboard that fits Apple’s brushed aluminum with a white accent aesthetic and delivers an excellent typing experience thanks to its chiclet-style butterfly switches, similar to those found in the Macbook. These keyboards are also compatible with a wide range of Apple products, often pair seamlessly, and can be used with any recent iteration of a device such as iPhones, iPads, or Mac products.

Since the keyboard is a Bluetooth-enabled keyboard, connecting these devices is usually relatively easy and does not have any issues in doing so however occasionally, some issues can occur that will not allow you to connect your Magic Keyboard to your devices.

Solution #1- Update your iPad OS to its Latest Version

One often simple fix is to simply update the OS that your iPad device is running, as connectivity issues sometimes accidentally occur with specific iPad models and Magic Keyboard models however, Apple is usually quick to fix these issues. To update your iPad, follow the instructions below.

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  2. Go to General > Software Update (if you don’t see a software update notification).
  3. Update your iPad.

This can usually resolve the issue, but if it doesn’t, follow on to the next step.

Solution #2 – Ensure that your iPad is properly Connected and Paired via Bluetooth

Another troubleshooting method for this issue is to ensure that the iPad has Bluetooth enabled and that you are able to find the Magic Keyboard on the Bluetooth Menu.

  • Open the Settings app on your iPad.
  • Open the Bluetooth settings menu.
  • Unpair the Magic Keyboard if you have already paired it.
  • Select scan for new Bluetooth devices.
  • Find the Magic Keyboard and try to connect to it.

Usually, this will solve the issue, as sometimes your devices incorrectly pair with each other. However, if it doesn’t, follow on to the next troubleshooting method.

Another possible reason for the issue to occur is if there is a cached issue in the iPad’s RAM. To wipe the RAM, or Rapid Access Memory, you will need to perform a Hard Reset on your iPad, which involves turning it off completely. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Hold down the power button on your iPad.
  2. When the power menu appears, click shut down.
  3. It is important to click shut down and not restart, as restarting sometimes saves the RAM and cache.
  4. Once your device has turned back on, try to connect to the Magic Keyboard again using Bluetooth and see if the issue is resolved.

Hopefully, one of these troubleshooting methods will have solved your issue so that you can now use your Magic Keyboard on your iPad Air or iPad Pro.
