However, despite being in the industry for years, PayPal is still prone to errors and service issues, including 10001, 10002, 10003, or 10004. If you ever encounter any or all of these error codes, there are several things you can do to fix them. 

How to Troubleshoot & Fix PayPal API Error Code 10001

Error code 10001 on Paypal often comes with different error messages, and each one has its solution. 

  • “ButtonSource value truncated”

Change the ButtonSource value. its length shouldn’t be over 32 single-byte characters and should be alphanumeric. 

  • “Transaction failed due to internal error” / “Internal error”

Contact PayPal Customer Service. 

  • “Receiving Limit Exceeded”

Contact PayPal Customer Service. 

  • “The transaction failed as a result of invalid credit card number. Check the number or attempt with another credit card.”

Request the customer to consult their bank. Both the merchant nor Paypal can’t discuss the problem because of customer and bank interactions.

  • “Transaction refused because of an invalid argument. See additional error messages for details.”

  • “Warning. An internal error has occurred. The transaction ID may not be correct.”

Fixing PayPal API Error Code 10002

Error code 10002 often comes with several error messages. However, the reason remains the same, and that is because of invalid or incorrect credentials. See to it that you enter them correctly and try again if possible. 

If you’re getting 10002: Security Header Invalid, it means that your API credentials are incorrect. Ensure that the account that will get the payments was used for generating the API credentials. You also need to check that your request is submitted to the right environment.

Any additional characters or spaces in the signature, password, or username can cause this error as well. Check for additional spaces at the end of the signature or password. These are often added every time you paste credentials into your cart. 

Troubleshooting & Fixing PayPal API Error Code 10003

Error code 10003 can also appear for various reasons, and again, their solutions are also somewhat different. 

  • A transaction ID is required.

Add a valid transaction ID in the API call. 

  • Either transaction ID or PayerID is required.

Add a valid Payer ID or transaction ID in the API call. 

  • Invoice ID is required.

Have a valid Invoice ID specified. 

  • Item name, amount and quantity are required if item category is provided.

Make sure all the necessary item parameters are included in your API call. 

  • One or more of these Giropay URLs is missing: giropaySuccessURL, giropayCancelURL, BanktxnPendingURL.

Ensure that a Vailid Giro URL is specified. 

  • OtherPaymentMethodID is missing.

Your API call should include Other Payment Method ID.

  • OtherPaymentMethodLabel is missing.

Your API call must include Other Payment Method Label. 

  • OtherPaymentMethodType is missing.

Your API call must include Other Payment Method Type. 

  • Start date is a required parameter.

Confirm that you have properly indicated your Start date parameter. 

How to Fix PayPal API Error Code 10004

Review the API call to make sure that the arguments you’re using are valid when accessing Paypal.

API error codes 10001, 10002, 10003, or 10004 in PayPal are somewhat common and you don’t have to panic. Each of these codes has different solutions so make sure you take note of them.
