When users see the error code 014.40 on their Roku devices, it means that they are not connected to their WiFi network. You may have an issue with your Internet connection, or you may have entered incorrect information on your WiFi settings.

In some cases, your device may have a corrupted cache that causes it not to connect to the Internet. Routers have Mac filtering. If you enable the feature, it may be blocking the Mac ID of your Roku device.

There are different ways on how you can fix the Roku error code 014.40 if your device won’t connect to WiFi. Check each method and follow the steps one by one.

Method #1 – Restart Your Device

Restarting your Roku device and smart TV can help refresh your connection. Turn off both your smart TV and Roku device. Wait for a few seconds before turning it on again. Now, check if the error still exists.

Method #2 – Power Cycle Your Devices

  • To power cycle, turn off all of your devices.
  • Unplug your modem and router.
  • Wait for at least 1 minute before plugging them back in again.
  • Connect to the Internet.
  • Now, turn on your devices and load a movie or show to check if the error is still there.

Method #3 – Perform Roku System Restart

  • To restart your Roku TV, go to the Settings menu.
  • Click System.
  • Choose Power.
  • Select System Restart.
  • To restart your Roku player, navigate to the Settings menu.
  • Click System.
  • Select System Restart.

Method #4 – Verify Your WiFi Information

Information in your WiFi settings may be incorrect. To verify if the WiFi password on your Roku device is correct, follow the steps below.

  • On your Roku remote, press the Home button.
  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Choose Network.
  • Select Setup Connection.
  • Click Wireless.
  • Choose your Home Network.
  • Now, check if your WiFi password is correct.

  1. No. This didn’t do anything. For 1 thing I am not using a smart TV. So how do I do the set up from just the remote?
    Will it work if the TV is not connected to the router & so the wireless connection is strictly between the remote & the router? Or does the TV HAVE TO BE WIRED OR WIRELESSLY CONNECTED to the server for this to work? Of course instructions are worthless.

    please advise how to fix this problem. My TV with the in stalled Roku is 4 feet from the modem with nothing inbetween.

  4. Roku plug in box to regular tv Won’t connect to cable company Wi-Fi but will on my phone hot spot ??????? Have other components connected to Wi-Fi so I know it’s not the password .
