To download the app, search for the Roku app on Google Play Store or the App Store. After downloading the app, make sure it is connected to your Roku device.

  • Open the Roku app on your smartphone.
  • At the bottom of the screen, look for the Media button and click to open.
  • Select Screensaver.
  • Tap the Get Started button.
  • A notification message will inform you that Roku will access your photos and videos. Click Give Access.
  • You can now choose any photo that you want to use as your screensaver. You can add more photos to fill up your screensaver. Each time you add a photo, you can see a preview on your TV screen. Roku will notify you if no more photos can be added.
  • You can also choose the style for your screensaver, either you want it HQ Still or Pan and Zoom. You can also set the time for your screensaver.
  • Once you are done, click Set Screensaver.

It is that easy! If you want some photos added to your Roku screensaver, you can preselect them before creating a screensaver, especially if you have tons of photos in your gallery to choose from. Now, you can see your memories right on your TV.

  1. i can cast a photo, but there is no mention of adding more photos or doing a screensaver. Maybe it doesn’t work for Roku 3? Which Rokus have that feature?

  2. When trying to add pictures to the screensaver function of the Roku mobile app, it will only allow me to add 2 or 3 pictures and it says its only 10% full before I get an error message and won’t allow me to add any more pictures.
Worse yet it seems to be crashing my router.

  3. It worked for me only for me , it’s only a screensaver though like when your not using the device and it times out . I can’t get it as the actual wallpaper though but it’s still cool

  4. After allowing the Roku app to have access to local network, (IOS, settings>Roku>slide button to on) in the app, I found the screensaver….from the bottom of the window in the app, click Devices>Media>Screensaver>chose photos etc. Hope this helps

    • What app? There are lots of them available—-looks like a roku scam to me: promoting something that doesn’t work!!!!

  5. I have the roku app on my phone and it doesn’t have Screensaver up there and I’m trying to save my photos from my phone to my TV

      • No. It doesn’t work. When you click media it gives three options, music, photos, and videos. When you click photos, it says to tap on a photo to stream. Then nothing happens when you do that. So, either Roku phased this out or this article is full of bull hockey. Either way, if you can do it it is because your app is older. The newer version doesn’t have this built in any more.

  6. You can use Pixo as a screensaver for Roku. Pick out your pics in the Pixo mobile app and then they’ll automatically be used as a screensaver on Roku. Just set Pixo as the Roku screensaver

  7. I was able to do it but I really want to save as my wallpaper so I can see my personal photos instead of the preloaded ones on the Roku

  8. This does not work at all I see my picture on my TV but it doesn’t save it, And there’s no option to choose screensaver on Roku app where are you getting this information??????
