Many people love using Roku as their streaming device. But, did you know that you can also view your photos on TV using your Roku device? It is possible if you make them as screensavers.
Roku has a new feature that lets users create custom screensavers, so you can use your own photos and see them on your TV.
All you need to have are the cool photos and even videos from your recent vacation saved on your phone.
How to Create a Custom Roku Screensaver with your Own Photos
Before you can start using a customized screensaver with your own photos, you will first need to install the Roku app on your smartphone.

To download the app, search for the Roku app on Google Play Store or the App Store. After downloading the app, make sure it is connected to your Roku device.
- Open the Roku app on your smartphone.
- At the bottom of the screen, look for the Media button and click to open.
- Select Screensaver.
- Tap the Get Started button.
- A notification message will inform you that Roku will access your photos and videos. Click Give Access.
- You can now choose any photo that you want to use as your screensaver. You can add more photos to fill up your screensaver. Each time you add a photo, you can see a preview on your TV screen. Roku will notify you if no more photos can be added.
- You can also choose the style for your screensaver, either you want it HQ Still or Pan and Zoom. You can also set the time for your screensaver.
- Once you are done, click Set Screensaver.
It is that easy! If you want some photos added to your Roku screensaver, you can preselect them before creating a screensaver, especially if you have tons of photos in your gallery to choose from. Now, you can see your memories right on your TV.

This does not work. There is not screensaver button under media! Maybe this is not an option with Roku Express?
i can cast a photo, but there is no mention of adding more photos or doing a screensaver. Maybe it doesn’t work for Roku 3? Which Rokus have that feature?
When trying to add pictures to the screensaver function of the Roku mobile app, it will only allow me to add 2 or 3 pictures and it says its only 10% full before I get an error message and won’t allow me to add any more pictures.
Worse yet it seems to be crashing my router.
I agree I am struggling to do that
Do I have to leave my phone and the app on to make this work?
This totally doesn’t work. When I select screensaver nothing happens.
It worked for me only for me , it’s only a screensaver though like when your not using the device and it times out . I can’t get it as the actual wallpaper though but it’s still cool
After allowing the Roku app to have access to local network, (IOS, settings>Roku>slide button to on) in the app, I found the screensaver….from the bottom of the window in the app, click Devices>Media>Screensaver>chose photos etc. Hope this helps
why does it only work when im using the app?
MTK: What App?. I don’t see the screensaver option when I open the Roku app that downloaded
What app? There are lots of them available—-looks like a roku scam to me: promoting something that doesn’t work!!!!
I have the roku app on my phone and it doesn’t have Screensaver up there and I’m trying to save my photos from my phone to my TV
It does work dude u have to go to media and click screen saver
No. It doesn’t work. When you click media it gives three options, music, photos, and videos. When you click photos, it says to tap on a photo to stream. Then nothing happens when you do that. So, either Roku phased this out or this article is full of bull hockey. Either way, if you can do it it is because your app is older. The newer version doesn’t have this built in any more.
When I click the screensaver button, nothing happens. It goes to a blank screen
Mine worked for a couple days now when i try to go to the media option, screensaver is not available
You can use Pixo as a screensaver for Roku. Pick out your pics in the Pixo mobile app and then they’ll automatically be used as a screensaver on Roku. Just set Pixo as the Roku screensaver
this works!! thank you
I was able to do it but I really want to save as my wallpaper so I can see my personal photos instead of the preloaded ones on the Roku
This does not work at all I see my picture on my TV but it doesn’t save it, And there’s no option to choose screensaver on Roku app where are you getting this information??????
