While Windows 11 is still in its beta phase, the Search bar problem also appears on older versions of Windows, prominently so on Windows 10. So, how do you troubleshoot and resolve the search feature error? Check out some of the solutions you can do below.
Solution #1 – Reboot your Windows 11 PC
A simple restart can do wonders in your Windows 11 system processes.
- First, launch the Start button found in the middle of your taskbar.
- At the bottom right corner, click the Power button.
- Select Restart.
- After rebooting, try using your search bar again.
Solution #2 – Run the Windows Troubleshooter
- Launch the Settings menu.
- On the left side, select System.
- Go to the right panel and click Troubleshoot.
- Click Other troubleshooter.
- Look for Search and Indexing.
- Click the Run button.
Solution #3 – Perform an SFC Scan
- Open the Command Prompt with admin rights.
- Enter sfc /scannow.
- After scanning, restart your computer.

Solution #4 – Do a DISM Scan
- Launch the Command Prompt and run it as administrator.
- Enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth.
- After the first scan, enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth.
- Lastly, enter DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
- Restart your Windows 11 PC.
Solution #5 – End Task Windows Search
- Navigate to the Task Manager. If you don’t know how to open the Task Manager, press the keys Ctrl + Alt + Shift together.
- Go to the Details tab.
- Look for SearchUI.exe.
- Right-click on the filename and select End task.
- Click End Process.
Solution #6 – Update your Windows 11 PC
- Open the Settings menu.
- Select Windows Update on the left panel.
- On the right side, click Check for updates.
Solution #7 – Disable and Enable Windows Search
- Open the Taskbar by pressing together the keys Ctrl+Shift+ESC.
- Go to the Services tab.
- At the bottom, click Open Services.
- Look for Windows Search and right-click on it.
- Choose Properties.
- Look for the Service Status option.
- Click the Stop button.
- Look for the Startup Type.
- Choose Disabled.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Now, reboot your computer.
- Again, go to the Taskbar and navigate to the Services tab.
- Click Open Services and right-click Windows Search.
- Select Properties.
- Now, go to the Startup Type.
- Select Automatic.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
Solution #8 – Reset your Windows 11 Computer
- Launch the Settings menu.
- On the left side, select System.
- On the right, click Recovery.
- Under Recovery Options, go to Reset this PC.
- Click Reset PC.
