A major revamp is coming to Windows 10 operating system as Microsoft is releasing to the general public the new Windows 11 OS soon. Users will enjoy a new interface when they open their Windows PC. Microsoft tweaked several features in Windows 11 plus adding more tools to enhance user experience.

When you install Windows 11 OS, one of the first things you will notice is a new look on the taskbar and the Start menu. Instead of the usual lower-left corner, you will see your Start button at the center. However, you will no longer see Live Tiles when you launch the Start menu. Microsoft created a simplified look, which will still include your apps and Power tools.

Now, when you open the Start menu, it will be divided into two sections. The upper part will show your Pinned apps. If you want to access all the apps, click the All apps button at the top right corner. Below the Pinned apps is the Recommended section. Windows will put suggested files and apps that you can access as a shortcut.

Still, some people don’t like seeing the Recommended section. While it is helpful based on its function and goal, not everyone wants to see a huge part of their Start menu filled with apps or files they don’t find useful. Unfortunately, there is no way to clear, hide or remove the entire Recommended section from the Start menu.

But, you can always remove or hide the recommended files and get rid of them from your Windows 11 computer Start menu.

There are two ways to remove or hide the Recommended files from the Start Menu on your Windows 11 PC. First, you can manually remove them yourself individually. It will take some time, but it helps if you don’t want to pull out everything from that section. The second one is to stop Windows 11 from showing recently opened files on your Start Menu through the system settings. Files in the Recommended section are from your recently opened files or apps.

The steps to remove the files one at a time are easy. All you have to do is open the Start Menu. Right-click on the file you want to remove. Then, click Remove from list. You can do the manual process to all the files you want out and hidden from the Recommended section.

Method #2 – Stop Windows 11 from Showing your Recently Opened Files on Start Menu using Personalization Settings

In this method, you will need to edit your Windows 11 personalization settings.

  • First, launch the Settings menu of your Windows 11 PC.
  • On the left side, select Personalization.
  • Look for the Start option.
  • Go to Show recently added apps and toggle it to Off.
  • Scroll down and look for Show recently opened items in Safari, Jump Lists, and File Explorer.
  • Toggle the button to Off.

Which of the two methods above works for you better? You can tell us your reasons in the comment section below. We would love to hear them!
