Google rolled out its revamped version of Hangouts Meet few months ago at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic. Introducing Google Meet, a video conferencing platform offered by Google to its users.

The giant tech company integrated the video conferencing service into Gmail for seamless access and allow Gmail users to use it for free. Now, you can easily join any Meet video even right from your Gmail.

The Google Meet button is located on the left side of your Gmail interface. However, not everyone likes the idea of having another button to crowd the sidebar along with the email categories.

For some users, it only takes up space, which takes up more time in looking for their email labels. You can see Google Meet appearing above the Chat option with two added options: Start a meeting and Join a meeting.

If you do not want Google Meet to appear in your Gmail, you can hide or remove it completely. Here’s how:

How to Hide Google Meet and Remove it from Gmail’s Sidebar

  • First, open Gmail and login to your account.
  • At the upper right corner, click the Gear icon to open the drop-down menu.
  • Select Settings.
  • Click the Chat and Meet tab.
  • Under the Meet option, look for Hide the Meet section in the main menu. Select the option to hide Google Meet.
  • Click Save Changes.

How to Move Google Meet to the Right Side of Gmail

If you do not want to hide or remove Google Meet but want to get it out of your labels’ way, you also have the option to move it to the right side. That way, your labels are arranged as it is while still giving your easy access to Google Meet any time.

  • To move Google Meet, click the Gear icon and select Settings.
  • Click the Advanced tab.
  • Look for Right-side chat.
  • Under it, you will see the option Move the chat box to the right side of the inbox. Select Enable.
  • Click Save Changes.

It is that easy! Now, you have the option to hide Google Meet or simply move it to the right. If you do not see the Chat and Meet tab under your Gmail Settings, it only means that the feature is not yet added to your account. All you have to do is wait until it shows up. That’s the time you can hide Google Meet.
