Many users encountered error 501 when they try to install an app. They see the message,

“[App name] cannot be installed. Try again and if the problem continues get help troubleshooting ( Error code: 501 )”

The problem is a result when there are multiple apps that are installed simultaneously. Some apps that users are trying to install when this error occur include Youtube and Google Play Services.

How to Fix Error 501 on Google Play Store when Installing Apps

If you see the error code 501 on your Google Play Store app, you will find that there are ways on how you can fix the issue. The following methods below will help you solve the Android problem and allow you to download and install apps on your mobile phone again.

Method #1 – Stop Other Apps From Downloading

A common reason for the error code 501 is when multiple apps are downloading at the same time. Try to stop or cancel the downloading process of all the apps and install them one at a time.

Method #2 – Clear the Cache

  1. On your Android device, launch the Settings menu.
  2. Select Storage.
  3. Tap Apps or Other Apps.
  4. Now, look for Google Play Store.
  5. Tap the Clear cache button.
  6. Go back to the Apps or Other Apps.
  7. Look for Google Play Services.
  8. Tap the Clear cache button.
  9. Restart your device.

Method #3 – Install the Latest Updates on Your Google Play Store

You may have missed out on the latest upgrades for your Google Play Store app.

  1. To update the app, go to the Settings menu of your Android device.
  2. Select Apps or Apps & Notifications.
  3. Look for Google Play Services and tap to open.
  4. Tap App details in store. It will direct you to the Google Play Store app.
  5. Tap the Update button.
  6. Once done, launch your Google Play Store app.
  7. On the top of your screen, tap the three horizontal line button.
  8. Select Settings.
  9. Scroll down to the About section.
  10. Now, tap the Play Store version. It will download available updates immediately. Otherwise, it will say that the app is up to date.
