Microsoft launched Notepad, a simple text editor, on its Windows devices in 1983. Forward to 41 years later, Microsoft Notepad is now getting spellcheck tool and autocorrect feature!

While it may seem a little late considering that such capabilities are also available on Word and apps, having it on Notepad is refreshing. The feature works similarly as with Word but with little differences. Microsoft has been testing it since March and now, launching its full capacities to all users.

Basically, Notepad will show a red underline on misspelled words. All you have to do is left-click the words to view suggested spellings. You can also use the Shift + F10 keyboard shortcut.

If you want to see other suggestions from a different spelling menu, right-click the underlined word. You can even add these underlined words to the dictionary to be deemed as correct in spelling.

However, if you do not want the spellcheck and autocorrect to function in your Notepad app, you can turn it off from the settings. There is also the option to switch off spelling suggestions for several file extensions such as .txt, .md, .srt/.ass, .lrc and .lic.

The spellcheck and autocorrect feature on Notepad is available on version 11.2405.13.0 on Windows 11 23H2 PC.

Wrapping Up!

Enjoy the ease of autocorrect and spell checker on your Notepad to maximize your work efficiency. Notepad also has updated features from previous versions such as tab support, dark theme mode, autosave, editing enhancements and Copilot support.
