Fix Google Docs Spell Check Not Underlining Spelling Errors or Misspelled Words

Solution #1 – Restart Your Web Browser

A quick restart of the web browser you are using will help refresh the tools and functions in Google Docs. If it does not work, move on to the next solution.

Solution #2 – Check If You Have Enabled the Spelling Check Tool

You may have accidentally turned off the Spell Check tool on your Google Docs settings. Double check and enable the feature when necessary.

  • Open the document that you want to edit on Google Docs.
  • Click the Tools tab.
  • Go to Spelling and grammar.
  • See if the options Show Spelling Suggestions and Show Grammar Suggestions have checkmarks.

  • Click the File tab on the Google Docs menu.
  • Select Language.
