How to Remove Cast to Device Option from Context Menu on Windows 10

It is a huge advantage to cast or mirror media content from your Windows 10 PC to other devices like your smart TV. Microsoft made it easy with the Cast to Device option found on your Windows 10 context menu. However, not everyone is happy with the added selection when they launch the Right-Click Menu on PC. Method #1 – Remove Cast to Device on Context Menu via Registry Editor

  • From the Start menu, go to the Search option.
  • Enter regedit.
  • Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions.
  • Look for Shell Extensions. Right-click on it.
  • Click New.
  • Select Key.
  • Rename the folder to Blocked.
  • After renaming, double-click the Blocked folder to open.
  • Right-click on any space. Select New.
  • Choose String Value.
  • Enter the following: {7AD84985-87B4-4a16-BE58-8B72A5B390F7}.
  • Restart your computer.

Method #2 – Delete Cast to Device on Windows 10 Context Menu via ShellExView

There is a third-party app that you can use to remove the Cast to Device option on your Windows 10 context menu. It is called ShellEx View. To download the app, go to http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html. After downloading extract the file to install it.

  • Launch ShellEx View.
  • Go to the Extension Name column.
  • Look for the Play To Menu. Right-click on it.
  • Click Disable Selected Items.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Close the ShellEx View program.
  • Restart your computer.
