If you have multiple devices in one account and you want to set your Kindle ereader as the default device where your purchased Amazon ebooks should be delivered and saved automatically, follow the instructions below.

  • First, go to Amazon.com.
  • Login to your account.
  • On the upper right corner, go to Accounts & Lists.
  • Select Manage Your Content and Devices or go directly here.
  • Go to the Devices tab.
  • Look for the Amazon Device section.
  • Now, click Kindle.
  • Select the device that you want to set as default.
  • Click Set as Default Device.
  • Click Save.

Sometimes, it is more convenient to read your ebooks via smartphone or tablet. To set your Android phone, iPhone or tablet device as default to save your Amazon ebooks, follow the steps below.

  • Log in to your Amazon account on Amazon.com.
  • Go to Accounts & Lists.
  • Click Manage Your Content and Devices.
  • Go to the Devices tab.
  • Look for Amazon Apps Installed on Devices.
  • Click Kindle.
  • Look for the smartphone or tablet that you want to set as default.
  • Click More Actions.
  • Click Set as Default Device.
  • Click Save.

How to Unregister a Device on Amazon

If you have registered a device before for your Amazon ebooks, you can deregister it if you no longer use it.

  • Navigate to Manage Your Content and Devices under Accounts & Lists (or click here).
  • Click the Devices tab.
  • If it is a Kindle device, select the Amazon Device section. If it is a smartphone or tablet, click Amazon Apps Installed on Devices.
  • Now, look for the device that you want to unregister on your Amazon account.
  • Click the Deregister button.
