Having enough storage space is crucial if you want to backup all your files, photos, videos, and other documents or data. However, when you only use the free Google account, you get 15 GB of free storage, which you need to share within your Gmail, Google Drive, and Google Photos. It is good enough for some users if they don’t have many images and videos to upload, not to mention large email attachments on their Gmail account.

But, if the 15 GB free storage is not good enough for your current needs, it is easy to upgrade your subscription to Google One. You can have storage up to 100GB for $1.99 per month or 2TB for $9.99 per month. If you still need more, there is a plan with up to 30TB for $149.99 per month.

Google One storage will give you a lot of space to fill up with all of your pictures, videos, and files. But did you know that you can also share your Google One cloud storage space with your family?

Google introduced a feature called Google One Family Sharing. It means that you can create a family group in your Google One account. Your family members can share your total storage space plus enjoy the selected benefits that come with your subscription.

How Does Google One Family Sharing Works?

With your Google One account, you can add up to 5 family members to create a family sharing group. If you share your storage with them, you will be called the Google One Plan Manager. You have the option to share your family plan or remove it.

Each family member will have their personal storage space. It is up to 15GB only. Once your family members filled up their personal storage space, they can use the shared storage space in your account. If you have a 100 GB Google One subscription plan, they can share it.

Note that sharing your storage does not mean they have access to your files. They cannot view or even know your files unless you share them. It maintains the privacy of each member of the Family Sharing group.

How to Set Up Google One Family Sharing

Now, you cannot immediately share your Google One storage with your family members. You will need to set it up first.

  • Go to your Google One account.
  • On the left side, click the Settings menu.
  • Go to Manage Family Settings.
  • Look for the Share Google One with family option.
  • Toggle it to On.

  • Launch your Google One account.
  • On the left side, click Storage.
  • Look for Family Storage.
  • Click the down arrow next to it.
  • You will see how much storage space each member is using.
