To use and make video calls, meetings, or videoconferencing sessions on WhatsApp, you need to have a reliable Internet network connection, a working camera on your computer, and a microphone.

Let’s check out the methods below to learn how you can troubleshoot and fix the problem if your video calls are not working on the WhatsApp desktop app.

Method #1 – Relaunch the WhatsApp Desktop App on Mac or PC

Exit the WhatsApp desktop app on your Windows 10/11 PC or iMac/MacBook computer and wait for a few minutes. Now, try to relaunch it and make a video call to see if the quick refresh works.

Method #2 – Power Cycle your Computer & Network Devices

  • Exit the WhatsApp desktop app.
  • Shut down your computer.
  • Unplug your router and modem, and wait for at least 3 minutes.
  • Plug your router and modem back in, and connect to the Internet.
  • Turn on your computer and relaunch the WhatsApp desktop app.

Method #3 – Reset the WhatsApp Desktop App on PC

  • Click the Start button on your Windows PC.
  • Navigate to Settings.
  • Select Apps.
  • Go to Apps & Features.
  • Look for WhatsApp.
  • Click the Advanced options.
  • Select Reset.

Method #4 – Check WhatsApp Permission to Use Microphone and Camera

On Windows 10/11 PC

  • Select Privacy.
  • Choose Microphone.
  • Look for the Allow access to the microphone on this device option.
  • Select Change.

  • Go back to Privacy.
  • Choose Camera.
  • Go to Allow access to the camera on this device.
  • Choose Change.
  • Go to Camera access for this device, and turn it on.
  • Go to Allow apps to access your camera, and turn it on.

On Mac

  • Click the Apple logo at the top left corner of your Mac.
  • Go to System Preferences.
  • Select Security & Privacy.
  • Click Privacy.
  • Choose Microphone.
  • Look for the allow access to microphone option and check the box next to it.
  • Look for the turn-off access for that app and uncheck the box next to it.
  • Go back to Privacy.
  • Select Camera.
  • Check the box next to the access to microphone option.
  • Uncheck the box next to turn off access for that app.

Method #5 – Update your WhatsApp Desktop App

On Windows 10/11 PC

  • Go to the Microsoft Store.
  • On the top right corner, click the three-dotted icon.
  • Select Downloads and updates.
  • Click Get Updates.
  • Wait for Microsoft to download available updates.

On Mac

  • Go to the App Store.
  • Go to the sidebar and select Updates.
  • Look for WhatsApp and click Update next to it.

Method #6 – Reinstall the WhatsApp Desktop App
