Fix Account Notice Error in Microsoft Office 365 Subscription

While using your Office 365 app, you may have noticed a yellow warning bar at the top of the screen. The message says, “ACCOUNT NOTICE. We’ve run into a problem with your Microsoft 365 subscription and need your help to fix it.”

This is an Account Notice Error that may be due to the following reasons:

  • You haven’t paid your subscription yet.
  • Your payment was declined due to the cancellation of your credit card.
  • Your account subscription may be suspended or expired.
  • Your payment information is not up to date.

Office 365 which is now being rebranded by Microsoft into Microsoft 365, is a cloud-based subscription model version of Microsoft’s popular productivity suite Microsoft Office. If ever you come across this account notice error, there are ways on how you can fix the problem. Check out the steps below on what you can do to solve the issue.

Solution #1 – Check your Payment Information

You have to make sure that the information in your account is up to date and accurate. Before you check your payment information, you have to close your Office apps first.

  • Go to accounts.microsoft.com.
  • Sign in your account using your Microsoft account email. Make sure that your login information is associated with your subscription.
  • Proceed to Billing and Payments.
  • Next, check your payment information. If there are errors, change the details and save the update.
  • Open any Office app and check if the Account Notice still exists.

Solution #2 – Check if your Microsoft 365 Subscription is Active

You may not know it but your Home, Personal, or University subscription to Microsoft 365 may be suspended or has expired. Before you check your account status, close all Office apps first.

  • Go to accounts.microsoft.com and sign in your account associated with your Microsoft 365 subscription.
  • Go to the Services & Subscriptions page.
  • Next, check the details under Microsoft 365. It will show if your account is still active, suspended, or has expired. If it is expired, renew your account to remove the error. If it is suspended, contact technical support from the website to know the reason for your account suspension.

Solution #3 – Run the Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant for Microsoft 365

The Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant will help you fix the errors associated with Microsoft 365. You must download it first.

  • Go to microsoft.com and search for Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant.
  • Select Download Microsoft Support and Recovery Assistant and click Download.
  • Follow the installation process and once done, troubleshoot your Office application.

Solution #4 – Reinstall your Office Apps

If you are still stuck with the account notice error, try to reinstall the app. First, you have to deactivate the app, then uninstall it, and reinstall it back.

Deactivate Office

  • Go to accounts.microsoft.com and sign in your account.
  • Go to the Install page
  • Look for Devices and click Sign out of Office. Take note that it will take up to 72 hours so wait for Office to detect that you have signed out.

Uninstall Office

  • Go to Control Panel.
  • Select Programs and click Programs and Features
  • Look for Microsoft Office product and right-click on the name.
  • Select Uninstall.

Reinstall Office

  • Go to office.com and sign in your account.
  • Select Install Office and follow the download process.
  • Install Office after download and launch the app to see if the error is still there.
