ChatGPT has taken the world by storm thanks to its superfast prompt and feedback loop. As AI is starting to become a part of our daily lives, it’s important to have AI tools that are able to stay up and work reliably.
With ChatGPT, there are a few moments where it doesn’t work as intended, and this can be quite worrisome.

One of those moments is when you encounter the “Error in Body Stream” message prompt in the chat box thread after responding for quite a little longer. Here’s what you need to do if you want to fix that problem.
How to Troubleshoot and Fix ChatGPT Error in Body Stream Thread Response Issue when Using OpenAI Service
If you’re getting the body stream error as a response when using the ChatGPT AI chat in the first place, it’s likely linked to an internal problem within the ChatGPT website or OpenAI servers.

You’ll only be able to access previous prompts if you didn’t click on “Reset Thread” or any similar pop-up messages. The error comes with this message “There was an error generating a response.”
Solution #1 – Start a New Thread to Use on the ChatGPT Website
- Go to the New Thread option and click on it at the top-right of your screen
- Type in the query you’d like to address
- If everything works as intended, you won’t encounter an error
If this method doesn’t work, it’s likely that the ChatGPT servers are currently dealing with a lot of requests, so you might have to wait for a little while.
Solution #2 – Restart your Device
A cold restart should never be underrated as a solution for an unwanted error on a PC. The Error in Body Stream issue can be fixed if your computer is having troubles connecting with the network, or certain temporary files have been in place for too long.
- Go to the Start menu on windows
- Click on the power icon and select restart
- Wait for your PC to boot up again
- Open your browser and check ChatGPT
- See if the error persists
Solution #3 – Refresh the ChatGPT Webpage

Your ChatGPT webpage might be the reason for this problem, so it’s a good idea to attempt a quick restart. Just hit Ctrl+R if you’re on a PC and the website page should refresh quickly.
Solution #4 – Reset Thread
Similar to New Thread, you can also reset the thread here to quickly get rid of the problem.
- At the top-left of your ChatGPT window, you’ll find a Reset Thread button which you can use to reconfigure your queries
- Click on it and attempt to enter a prompt
See what the results are after attempting this method. If you’re still not receiving a good feedback, it might be time to call it quits for a short while.
Solution #5 – Wait for it to Work
ChatGPT has amassed over a 100 million users within a short span of time. If you want it to work as effectively as possible, it will be hard to satisfy every single user. These downtimes happen fairly often and the service is constantly being updated to improve uptimes.
Be sure to use ChatGPT at moments that are not peak hours. Instead of midday, try it in the middle of the night, when less people are online.
