Let’s take the IPHLPSVC for example. If you open your Task Manager, you will see the IPHLPSVC service running in the background. While you may understand that your PC needs to run it, you may notice that the service is using a huge amount of memory than you might think it actually needs. 

Internet Protocol Helper Service or IPHLPSVC is a Windows 10 process that moves information about network connection as requested by users. It often runs when you use IPv6. It delivers network connection data like IP addresses and adapters. 

While it is a crucial service in your Windows 10 PC system, it is not always necessary for IPHLPSVC to take up and consume a lot of the allocated memory. Sometimes this problem happens due to a memory leak issue

Exhausting your memory or RAM allocation usage is not an ideal situation. It will only cause your Windows 10 computer to slow down in performance, and it may eventually crash your system. How to Troubleshoot & Fix Memory Leak Issue that Causes IPHLPSVC High Memory Usage Problem on Windows 10 Computer

There are several ways that you can fix the very high memory usage issue for the IPHLPSVC process on your Windows 10 PC. You can try following each method below one at a time and check if it works for you.

Method #1 – Restart the IPHLPSVC Process

  • Launch the Run Dialog Box on your Windows 10 PC.
  • Enter services.msc.
  • Look for IP Helper and right-click on it.
  • Select Restart.

Method #2 – Reset TCP/IP

  • Click the Start button.
  • On the Search box, enter Command Prompt.
  • Right-click on the Command Prompt result.
  • Select Run as administrator.
  • Click Yes if you see a prompt message.
  • On the Command Prompt, type netsh int ip reset.
  • Hit Enter.

Method #3 – Disable the IP Helper Service that Runs the IPHLPSVC Process


Note that you can turn off IPHLPSVC process by disabling the IP Helper service if you are not using it in the Services settings. Otherwise, you can always enable it.

  • Go to Windows Search and enter Services.
  • Click Services to open a new window.
  • Under the Services tab, look for IP Helper and double-click to open it.
  • Navigate to the General tab.
  • Look for the Startup Type. Click the down arrow.
  • Select Disabled.
  • Under Service status, click Stop.
  • Click the Apply button.
  • Click OK.
