How to Fix Vizio TV Stuck on Smartcast is Starting Up Issue

One of the most common issues you might get with your Vizio TV is it becomes stuck while loading with this error message: “Smartcast is starting up. Please wait.” And it takes forever to load.

When loading your Vizio TV, you will see the message Smartcast is starting up. But, when it is stuck there for several minutes, it may be a problem with your TV or your Internet connection.

One reason is when your Vizio Smartcast TV has memory issues. Or, your Internet connection may be weak or unstable. To help you solve the issue, read the methods below on how to fix it.

How to Fix or Unfreeze Vizio TV Stuck on Smartcast is Starting Up

Method #1 – Check Your Internet Connection

It may be a problem with your network connection. Check with another device if you can connect with the Internet. You may also try using another network to connect your TV and see if it is working or not. Try to improve your Internet connection by elevating your router or connecting directly to your modem.

Method #2 – Power Cycle Your Device

Another way to fix the error is to refresh your TV and network connection.

  1. Turn off your TV and unplug it.
  2. Do the same with your router and modem.
  3. Wait for at least 1 minute before plugging your devices back in.
  4. Turn on your Vizio Smartcast TV and check if the error is still there.

Method #3 – Perform a Soft Power Cycle on Your TV

If power cycling your network connection does not work, try to soft power cycle your TV.

  1. On your remote, tap the Menu button.
  2. Navigate to System.
  3. Go to Reset & Admin.
  4. Select Soft Power Cycle.
  5. Select Yes to confirm.
  6. Now, wait for your Smartcast TV to reboot.

Method #4 – Factory Reset Your TV

If none of the methods above work, try resetting your TV to default settings. Take note that to do a factory reset, your TV’s settings will go back to its original state.

  1. On your remote, tap the Menu button.
  2. Go to System.
  3. Now, go to Reset & Admin.
  4. Select Reset TV to Factory Settings.

      • Same. I’ve done all of the above and not only do I get the black screen/circle of doom, but now it randomly changes inputs to smartcast right in the middle of watching cable or using a firestick.

  1. I’m with Sal, only temporary solution. Is this a factory defect. It worked great for about a year then this started happening. Do I need to get in touch with the manufacturer?

    • Last Vizio TV I’ll ever buy. My spell checker doesn’t want to recognize that it’s even a product. Smart cast definitely will be the death of the vizio products.

  3. I need help getting smartcast to play through my Yamaha AV amp. Regular tv plays perfect, then when I switch to smartcast it only plays through the tv speakers. Anyone know if a way to get smartcast to play through my amp?

  4. Every time I turn the tv on and choose a chanel it plays for a couple of seconds then it switches to smart cast and I can’t get any channels why does it switch by itself
