We sent a lot of messages each day via different messaging services like Facebook Messenger, SMS, Twitter, or WhatsApp. While it is practical for us to save messages to look back in the future, not all messages are worth keeping. They even take up precious space and storage on our mobile phones or apps.

Deleting the messages we got one at a time may take some time. But, what if they automatically disappear or vanish after a week? WhatsApp is introducing a new feature that will delete your messages when enabled. The disappearing messages feature will help you declutter and get rid of chat messages that you don’t want to save.

When someone has sent you a message, it will start counting the days until the message will disappear from your chat. You only have seven days to store it, whether you have read it or not. Only those that you have received after you enable the feature counts. Previously received messages are not affected and will remain in your WhatsApp chat.

The WhatsApp disappearing feature applies both to individual and group chat. You can turn it on or off while group admins are only allowed to control it. In case you forward a disappearing message to another person, the forwarded WhatsApp message will not vanish or disappear, only the original text message. The quoted text also remains even if you respond to a disappearing message.
