Discord is currently the biggest communication platform for PC gamers thanks to the amazing community features. Also, as one of the biggest multiplayer games today, Valorant fans heavily rely on Discord to get a reliable form of communication with teammates.

While these two programs work great together, some users haven’t been so lucky with them. Certain players have reported Discord errors. These random crashes reportedly happened within 2-3 seconds of launching Valorant on PC.

Judging from the way Discord is integrated with most games, this problem is one that likely emerges from the in-game overlay. When the overlay fails to activate, Discord may crash, leaving you with an error 404 message.

We’ll show you some recommended ways to fix this problem.

Because this problem involves the overlay for Discord, you can link it to a number of things, including permissions on your device. There’s also the presence of Firewall restrictions that are restricting the ability of Discord to access your game’s data.

Method #1 – Restart your Discord Client

Discord is familiar with this problem’s existence, and they recommend that users restart the client. Trying out this fix as your first troubleshooting method shouldn’t be a problem. Simply close the Discord window on your screen and ensure that you close it from the Taskbar as well.

  1. Go to the Taskbar and select Show hidden icons.
  2. Choose the Discord icon and right-click to view a mini menu.
  3. Go to the final option and choose Exit.
  4. Launch Discord once more and attempt to open Valorant.
  5. See if the problem persists.

Method #2 – Turn off Game Overlay on Discord

While it’s easy to link the fault to Discord alone, there’s also a chance that Valorant is incompatible with the in-game overlay. It is especially true once you consider how intense Riot made the Valorant anti-cheat system to be. Turn off the Game Overlay by doing the following:

  • Open Discord and go to Settings by using the tiny Gear icon at the bottom left where your user name is displayed.
  • From the sidebar menu, look for the Activity Settings.
  • Click on Game Overlay under this heading.
  • Here, you’ll see an option to Enable Overlay, and you can turn this off to disable the in-game overlay.
  • Once this is done, relaunch Discord and Valorant to see if the error persists.

Method #3 – Delete the Discord App and Reinstall It

If your Discord app has corrupted files, there isn’t anything you can do to sort it out apart from a quick reinstall.

  1. Press the Windows key + R to open a Run dialog box.
  2. Go to the search bar and type in “appwiz.cpl,” then press Enter.
  3. It will lead you to the Programs & Features menu in the Control Panel.
  4. Find Discord in the long list of apps, right-click on it and select Uninstall.
  5. Close this panel.
  6. Go to the Discord website and download the app again.

Discord is amazing for in-game communication, so it’s ideal for the app to be working simultaneously with Valorant. However, you don’t want an error distracting you.

Hopefully this guide should help you deal with the issue, or fix it through a reinstall.
