Netflix is bringing in a new app version to Windows 11. But, apparently, it’s going more backwards than moving forward, technologically!
The supposed new update on Netflix was announced last May with the anticipation of its release in June. However, there is not much loss for users with all the delay, as the streaming app upgrade came as a shock to everyone who had their hopes up. On the contrary, it came as a full-on “downgrade”.

Let’s start with the app itself. You would expect Netflix to consistently give you a dedicated app, much like what you have been streaming on. But, sad to say, Netflix on Windows 11 PC automatically leads you to its website version on Microsoft Edge. So, what you get is Netflix.com on Edge browser acting like an app window.
It still leaves functionalities like being able to create desktop shortcuts and pinning into the taskbar. However, when you right-click on the app, you get to open the menu in a new browser tab.
Now, we all enjoy downloading videos on Netflix and watching them offline. Unfortunately, Windows 11 users may no longer have the privilege to continue with such a lifestyle. The new Netflix app does not support Downloads. According to Netflix, only streaming online can be done. That means, you may need to switch to a different supported device to watch your offline TV shows and movies.
