Say the words and Firefox will follow – that is what Mozilla wants the world to know with its newly released – Firefox Voice. Though at an experimental stage, it lets you command using your words, just like Alexa, Siri, or Google Assistant.
Firefox Voice works as your voice assistant when using the Firefox browser. With just your voice, you can surf the web or execute commands. It can recognize natural-langauge speech so you don’t have to worry about technical commands. However, Firefox Voice simply follows your commands on screen and does not respond yet through voice.

All voice recordings will be sent to Google Cloud Speech Service and Mozilla to process all commands. Users will have the option to request saving the voice transcripts or not. Google will not have any record of these commands. But, at your consent, you can submit your voice commands to Mozilla for further research and development of the extension.
Firefox Voice Features
Install the Firefox Voice and you can navigate your way around the browser without using your hands. With only your voice, you can manage tabs on your browser or search specific websites. You can also take screenshots of a web page or copy and paste contents.
Firefox Voice also gives you media controls. If you are streaming on YouTube or other services, you can say “Play”, “Pause”, “Mute”, or “Forward”. You can even set the timers or ask for translations. Adjusting the playback is also hands-free.

How Firefox Voice Works
- If you want to try Firefox Voice, first download it as a browser extension.
- After downloading, install it on your Firefox browser.
- To use your Firefox Voice, click on the icon in the address bar.
- Then, start speaking.
As of now, the Firefox Voice is available only in desktop versions using English language commands.
Things to know:

- You’ll need a working microphone to use Firefox Voice.
