To hide your online identity, the Tor browser utilizes the process called onion routing. Like a real onion with many layers, the Tor browser uses the same layer of encryption to hide your browsing history effectively. There are three layers of proxy available that will gradually encrypt your activities from the source to the destination for a whole new level of private browsing experience.

As you go inside the entry nodes, it will connect you through random notes until you exit in a more encrypted final node. In the middle of the process, there will be several times of encryption to make it difficult to trace back to you.

How to Download & Install the Tor Browser on Chrome OS or Chromebook Computer

If you want to download and install the Tor browser on your Chromebook computer‘s Chrome OS, you can use the Tor Android app. However, please note that you will receive the mobile version of the app and not the desktop version, since it is an Android app. Your experience will not be as efficient as when you use the Tor app on your mobile device.

  • To install the Tor browser app, launch the Google Play Store.
  • Search for Tor browser.
  • Select the app that has Tor Project as the developer.
  • Click Install.

Unfortunately, there is no native desktop Tor browser version available for ChromeOS. Still, if you really want a desktop experience and need to install and use the Tor Browser on Chromebook, you can do a Linux workaround. You will need to turn on the Linux subsystem on Chrome OS on your Chromebook laptop. After that, you will need to install the Tor browser launcher and launch it to install the browser itself.
